Why do I have to pay a single supplement, and can I avoid it?
The majority of hotels price their rooms as doubles or family rooms and do not reduce their rates if they are occupied by a single person. Hoteliers justify this by pointing out that the cost of providing the room - heating, lighting, cleaning etc - is the same regardless of how many people occupy it.
